2018 FL-GAPNA Election

The election for 2018 FL- GAPNA board vacancies is from June 3 through July 3. Each candidate is listed below the position they are nominated for. New officers will be announced at our Quarterly Meeting held at  West Palm Beach Marriott July 20th.

PRESIDENT NOMINEE

Barbara Phillips, DNS, GNP-BC

Dr. Phillips earned the Gerontological Nurse Practitioner designation and Doctorate of Nursing Science from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL. She is past president of GAPNA (formerly National Conference of Gerontological Nurse Practitioners) and currently serves as Board Member Emeritus of the GAPNA Foundation. She is also Director at Large of FL GAPNA and a member of FMDA. Currently Dr. Phillips is working with the Dementia Unit at MorseLife Health System, Inc. Prior to joining MorseLife Dr. Phillips held various positions with Amgen, the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Palm Beach, and the Breckinridge School of Nursing.

PRESIDENT ELECT NOMINEE

Marva Edwards-Marshall, DNP, ARNP-C

Dr. Edwards-Marshall is a Clinical Services Manager with Optum Care, before this appointment she was a Nurse Practitioner at Health Management Associates in Melbourne Florida, specializing in Geriatrics, an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Brevard Community College in Palm Bay in the Associate Degree Nursing program.She earned her BSN, MSN and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees at the University of Central Florida with specialization as an Adult Nurse Practitioner.

Dr. Edwards-Marshall is a member of Space Coast Clinicians organization, Florida Medical Directors Association, Florida Geriatric Advanced Practice Nurse Association (FL-GAPNA) and National League of Nurses. Previously held board positions in FL-GAPNA as Director at Large and President. She is also actively involved in community health education locally and internationally. She has conducted health fairs and health screening and health education at local churches and community centers, as well as internationally namely in Tobago, Carriacou and Belize.

TREASURER NOMINEE

Tatiana Passe, RN, MSN, FNP-C

Tatiana Passe is a board certified family nurse practitioner. Previously elected director at large for FL-GAPNA 2017. She received her MSN from Florida Atlantic University in 2010. Tatiana is currently employed at Team Health of South Florida (FLACS). She works with the geriatric population in mostly skilled nursing facilities. Tatiana believes that she has found her “nursing niche.” She feels that nurse practitioners are vital to the quality of life improvement of the older adult.

Aida Nieves-Walker, RN, MSN

Jill M. Shutes, DNP, ARNP, GNP-C

Dr. Shutes has been a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner for over 20 years. She has experience in  working in long-term care, skilled care and home care. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University in the DNP/FNP program. Dr. Shutes as recently started a Home Based House Calls program for homebound elderly providing primary care. She also serves on several other boards. She is the incoming President of the Chi Phi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society as well as a member of the National Organization for Nurse Practitioner Faculty (NONPF) special interest group “geronotology”.

Her unique qualities include being versatility.   She enjoys participating in anything that involves advancing the health and well-being of older adults. geriatrics. Learning all about how to bring best practice into the lives of our seniors is her passion. Since the removal of the Geriatric ANCC GNP certification, she has made it her life’s mission to educate Advance Practice Nurses on  how to care for the silver tsunami headed our way. She a passion and a true heart for seniors and would love the opportunity to serve on the board of FL-GAPNA as a director-at-large.

Jessie Quick, RN-C, MSN

Jessie Quick is  a masters educated RN specializing in Gerontological Nursing. She has been  employed at the VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL for the past 15 years. Previously she has held held positions in the Lakeside Health Center,FL, and the Gun Club County jail. She is also a Eucharistic minister at Saint Paul of the Cross in North Palm Beach. Patience and compassion are her virtues. Jessie has participated in several volunteer opportunities. She has participated with People to People Nursing Delegation with in China in 2005.  In December 2017: she and a co-worker brought supplies to the Cloister Sisters in the mountains of Puerto Rico after a Hurricane left them without electricity. As a director-at-large for FL-GAPNA, she hopes to share knowledge and comradery with such a dedicated group of advanced practice nurses. Her goal is to help make a difference in the lives of older adults.
